Setup and host your own wiki in one step
Wikis have become very popular recently. However, wikis reliant on MySQL or Ruby can be difficult to setup and manage. PmWiki is a wiki that runs completely in PHP and requires absolutely no configuration. All you need to do is unzip the file onto your webserver which I previously showed you how to setup. I will walk you through this very easy process.
First, download PmWiki from the PmWiki homepage.
Next, unzip PmWiki and place the unzipped folder onto your webserver. If you followed my post on how to setup your own webserver in Windows XP you will place the pmwiki folder into “c:/apache2triad/htdocs”
Lastly, navigate your browser to the PmWiki folder and click on “pmwiki.php” to see your new wiki in action. On my server, PmWiki is located at: http://localhost/pmwiki-latest/pmwiki-2.1.27/pmwiki.php
In an upcoming post I will show you how to get free hosting for your wiki from a very reliable third party so you do not have to host it locally.
