Quick Tip: Faster File Searches (Win XP)

By request, “Tell me again, what’s that trick for keeping the Windows Explorer [on Windows XP] from searching inside ZIP files?”
To disable:

regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

To re-enable:

regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

  1. Thanks for the tip, Craig. Some time ago I discovered a tiny little program called Everything Search Engine blows Windows search out of the water for speed and weight. I discovered it via Free File Search Utility is the Best Yet. It’s cool because it doesn’t do any indexing of its own–it uses the indexes the NTFS filesystem makes, so it will complete a complicated query on a large drive in the time it takes to type it. It’s so incredible that I used Autohotkey to override my Win + F keyboard shortcut for search and use it exclusively. I hope you find it useful, too. :-)
