Quick Tip: Command Prompt with Instant Current Dir (Windows)
In previous articles, we’ve described some jobs that are easier to do with the command prompt than with the Windows Explorer (see links below). The first steps in those articles were always to open a DOS prompt window, and then navigate to the folder in question using the CD command (CD stands for change directory). Here’s a tip that makes those two steps much faster.
One of the Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP is “Open Command Window Here.” It adds an “Open Command Window Here” option to the context menu in Widows Explorer. As the name implies, this is a quick way to open a command window (cmd.exe) with the selected folder already current. (Thus, saving you from having to use CD to get there.)
